Unplug the master velop from router then login with you phone and choose login locally. This worked for me. Use the casupport=1 string after you disconnect it from the router. Make sure the phone in on the velop wifi. Hope this helps. It's very flacky as soon as it connect it back to the router the local login option goes away in 30mins.

Yes you have it correct. I recommend the Modem\Router have the same SSIDs as the Velop systems but physically be far enough away at approx -65 as listed in the sysinfo report wireless scan sections so device will roam properly between the main router and Velop nodes. When you set a Velop system to Bridge Mode some of the features get disabled.
